Happy spring!

Yeah I know the first day of spring was weeks ago but yet again Nebraska didn't get the memo. This morning however I awoke to birds singing, the sun shining, and a light breeze carrying the scent of lilacs from the trees out side our complex. How I will miss that smell when we move in June.

I love this weather! Shorts, sandals, sunscreen - bring on summer!

Natures Toys

Today was one of those rare nice spring days so the children and I took advantage of it. We spent the better part of the afternoon outside.

Which leads me to my post title! Why on earth am I spending 100's of dollars on toys for my children when today they didn't play with a single one.

Instead they played happily with natures toys. Lorelai found hours of fun collecting rocks. We even worked on our counting skills!

While Lorelai napped later Peyton and I took a long walk, well long for him anyway, around the complex. He loved finding new fun nature things to explore. He chased a bird and found his very first pinecone.

Ofcourse now I'm a proud keeper of 2 rocks and a pinecone. Because every little child knows mommy is the only person trusted enough to hold on to your treasures.

But its SPRING!

After a week of lovely weather I woke this morning to an inch and a half of snowy slush. ICK!! Its 1pm and still snowing. Just when I had hope that the mud would start to dry and our mountians of show piles would slowly start to melt. (No kidding some are 6ft tall where the plows dumped the snow from our christmas blizzard.) As if the cold I got from the weather change wasnt enough now its like mother nature was just teasing the midwest.

Remember my previous post to mother nature, I was nice. No more, I hate you mother nature!

Brrrr, Freezing!!

We woke up to 1 degree outside and about the same inside. Of course today would be the day our furnace decides to break!

Called maintenance and they arrived within two hours. Yea! Now to wait until it warms up.

Dear Mother Nature

Dear Mother Nature,
You can stop snowing ANY time now!!

As a resident of the Midwest, I am well aware of your wide range of weather abilities. I often wonder if you use us as test subjects, as we seem to get the craziest combinations of temperatures, precipitation, and wind.

This winter started earlier than usual and you have dumped enough snow upon us to freeze hell its self. I feel its only fair that spring should get here ASAP! I sit here stuck in my home with two crazy toddlers with major cabin fever. And I cannot be responsible for what may happen if I have to stay stuck inside for one more week.

If you insist on dumping more snow here at least get in touch with lady luck on my behalf and work out a deal for me to win the lottery. At least then I can buy a one way ticket to somewhere warm. I promise to return in the spring.
