Back to School Allergy Tips from Claritin

backtoschoolIts back to school time! Are you as excited as I am? Haha! With backpacks and lunch boxes we also have to restock our medicine chest with our fall needs. One thing we reach for is Claritin.

This summer went by too fast for our family. We welcomed a new baby and my oldest baby went on a cruise with out me. So unfair! But now its back to the daily grind. With our oldest off to school I cant be around to shelter her from things that might cause a flair up but I know that we will have Claritin on hand if it does. I’m just glad our big guy doesn’t have any allergies! Below are some Allergy tips from Claritin.

Back to School Allergy Tips6a00e554e8b4c2883301901e96d3c9970b-800wi_thumb[8]

  1. Be sure to have Children’s Claritin, the #1 pediatrician-recommended non-drowsy allergy brand, on hand!
  2. Multi-vitamins are building blocks to having a strong immune system. Make taking a multi-vitamin part of your child’s daily routine.
  3. Let there be light! Mold doesn't like sunlight, so try to keep your curtains open during the day. Should be easy during the summer months!
  4. Did you know that most pillows trap allergens, dust mites, and bacteria? Monitor the cleanliness of the pillow your child with allergies sleeps on and replace if necessary.
  5. Back to school season means lots of laundry for many moms. Be sure to remove laundry from the washing machine promptly. Allowing wet clothes to sit in the washer means mold can quickly grow there.
  6. Monitor pollen counts and adjust outdoor before and after school activities accordingly. Dry, windy days can be particularly high in pollen.
  7. Showering or bathing at the end of the day as opposed to the morning can be helpful in removing allergens from body surfaces and hair.
  8. Stay hydrated! Always send your child to school with a bottle of water. Drinking lots of clear fluids through the day can help get rid of toxins and flush out body.
  9. Peak pollen production typically occurs in early morning, so try to plan outside activities at other times of the day.

What back to school tips do you have?

“Spring in Your Step” Mom Meet-Up with Children’s Claritin

190180_4447178821772_242857636_aI love being part of the Children’s Claritin Mom Crew. This Spring we were given the opportunity to host a “Spring in Your Step” Mom Meet-Up. With our baby due any day now, I took the opportunity to get a small play date in before school ends and the busy days of summer (and a new baby) starts.

I invited a few mommy friends over and as we let our kiddos play we got to talking about summer allergies. My little girl is covered in eczema patches right now due to her allergies. Sad smile So it started the topic of how we as parents treat their symptoms and still give them the chance to play! Our family was already a Claritin family because that’s what my Dr. prescribed me for my allergies and what my daughter takes for hers. We swapped tips and tricks we had as well.

And as an added bonus Claritin was nice enough to send a few ice/heat pads for me to share with my friends. As well as a few allergy tips for the busy spring/summer days ahead!

Thank you to a fellow mom crew member for the picture below. (we were in a hurry and I forgot to take a picture before passing out my goodies. LOL) 574596_10200745964109677_1470565413_n

Managing Allergies with Children’s Claritin; Mom Crew Tips and Tricks for Surviving the Summer Season‏

MomCrewMemberButton-final_thumbWhew! That sound that we just heard from Crew Members everywhere is a collective sigh of relief. After a spring allergy season that started early and seemed almost never ending, it's finally summer! Longer days and a shorter to-do list allow us to exhale and enjoy spending quality time with our family. However, moms of allergy sufferers know that some triggers can be found year round and each season brings a new set of challenges. That's why we're glad that our Children's Claritin Mom Crew fun will continue into the summer. Keep your eyes open for more tips and exclusive opportunities, including the chance to beautify your community with allergy friendly plants! Until then, soak up the sun and fun that summer has to offer, knowing you're "free to play".

Summer Allergy Tips

During the summer months, grass pollen fills the air across much of North America. There are many types of grasses, and several of them have long seasons. In the southern United States, Bermuda grass is found nearly year-round. When taking care of your entire family, consider these pointers for people whose everyday schedules change in the summer:

  • Take Claritin® allergy products as soon as you begin to have symptoms.
  • Having medication with you will help you control your allergy symptoms before they control your lifestyle.
  • Avoid yard work that may increase your exposure to pollen and molds, such as mowing, raking and weeding.
  • Post reminders to take medication.
  • Take medication at the same time each day.
  • If you need to take medication during the day, carry it with you.
  • Buy a watch with an alarm and set it to go off every day when it's time to take your medicine.
  • Use Claritin products as directed.

"Free to Play"- 24 Ways to Enjoy the Summer, Both Inside and Outdoors

While summer is synonymous with sun, the high heat or rainy days can also call for indoor activities. Since Children's Claritin is non-drowsy and provides 24-hour relief, your kids can be themselves, no matter what the forecast. Click here to download our "Free to Play 24 Ways" fun sheet.

Fruit Pizza

Everyone loves pizza AND desserts so why not combine them both for a sweet treat featuring summer produce!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package refrigerated sugar cookie dough
  • 1 tub of cream cheese, softened
  • 1 container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • A variety of fruit of your choice (strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, grapes, etc.)

Directions: Roll out cookie dough into a large circle and bake according to package directions. (we make 6-8 mini pizzas instead of one large one) Allow to cool. Mix cream cheese and whipped topping together and spread evenly over your cookie "crust". Cover the pizza with fruit. For a pretty look, start on the outside and do a layer of each kind of fruit, repeating as you get closer to the center. Refrigerate before cutting into "slices" before serving.

Manage Allergies with Children’s Claritin; Mom Crew

Growing up I never had to think about allergies, most of my family didn’t have any and those of us who did, were allergic to medicines. Easy enough to deal with, I myself am allergic to penicillin products and Sudafed. I know to tell my doctors not to prescribe it. Simple! Then I met my husband, as a child he was allergic to dust, pollen and cats. As an adult he is still allergic to cats so we don’t have one. Then we moved to NY and all of a sudden I developed seasonal allergies!

Thus began the constant sneezing, itchy eyes, running nose, as well as a few other (oh so) fun allergy symptoms. WHY ME?  At almost 30? WHY NOW? After going my whole life as an (semi) allergy-free girl, I have allergies as an adult? And I had always thought you developed allergies as a child not as an adult.

Then I met my new best friend: Claritin. Claritin so far has been the only medication to ease all of my symptoms. My daughter, now 4, was diagnosed with severe allergies at 9 months old. She was allergic to milk, soy, eggs, as well as a bunch of other environmental stimuli's, it seemed like she was allergic everything! And our doctor recommended Children's Claritin. My best friend became her best friend too.

MomCrewMemberButton finalSo, I am overjoyed to announce that I am a Children’s Claritin Mom Crew Member ambassador! What does that mean for you? Well, it means that I will be able to give you updates, hints and tips, and sometimes products received directly from Children's Claritin. Not to mention all the other Mom Crew Members!

We already use Claritin, so I think it will be great to actually work with them and the rest of the Claritin Mom Crew. Keep checking back here for updates on Claritin and ways to help beat your children's allergies.

Here are a few from the March newsletter:
Spring Allergy Tips
It's not surprising that in the season notorious for allergies, we have the most tips to share! Beginning as early as February, invisible pollens from hardwood deciduous trees are big troublemakers for many allergy sufferers. But there's no reason to be miserable. These tips can help you minimize your exposure to allergens, and be prepared as possible for the pollen storm that's on the horizon.

  • Start taking Claritin® allergy products as soon as symptoms start.
    • Having medication on hand will help you prepare for allergy symptoms.
  • Know your nemesis.
    • When you understand what triggers your allergy symptoms, you can make an extra effort to avoid them. For example, grass pollen levels rise when grass is disturbed, so if that's one of your triggers, wear a mask when mowing or avoid mowing altogether.
  • Beat the clock.
    • Peak pollen production can occur in early morning, so try to plan outside activities at other times of the day.
  • Check the forecast.
    • Avoid going outdoors when pollen counts are high. Also, heavy rains wash pollen from the air, making post-shower outings more comfortable. Beware of dry, windy days when pollen can be particularly intense. (Get the pollen counts and weather forecast for your area and sign up for the Claritin® Allergy Forecast.)

All of these tips and more can be found on Claritin’s website and be sure to like them on Facebook as well!
