The Yellow Pages–where you find stuff

The Yellow Pages. All throughout growing up, this would grace many of our doorsteps each year, filled with information about businesses. Want to order a pizza tonight? Get out the Yellow Pages. Got to get your car fixed? Yellow Pages. Need a pipe fixed? Yellow Pages.
But now, in the digital age, the phone book has become a useless nuisance. I know that when I see the phone book on my doorstep, I may bring it inside, but never even take it out of its bag. Why should I? All I have to do is go online and I can find the same information.
But on the go is another story. Sometimes, trying to find the information on my phone takes too much time and effort. This is where Yellow Pages makes a comeback, with the Yellow Pages App. Within seconds, I can find what I need, and even dial it, all with the tap of a few buttons. This is handy when I’m on the go and need to contact a business for some reason, whether it be calling one store from another to find out if a product is available (very important for the holidays), or calling to see if a package was delivered.
Times have changed. But people still will need to be able to find a business quickly and easily. Yellow Pages is still delivering great services, now updated to the 21st Century.

check out this cool app and tell me what you think of it below to be entered to win a cool prize pack from Yellow pages!

Portable North Pole: Keeping the Christmas magic alive

3381863Santa Claus. This jolly red man bringing presents to every child of the world is a staple of many people’s childhoods. However, with the technology and the conformity demanded by today’s society, the bringer of gifts is fast being phased out of Christmas, and children everywhere are beginning to doubt the magic of Santa.

This is a problem that is, at least partially, solved by Portable North Pole. With a few simple bits of information provided by you, Santa will send your children a personalized video with a special message from Santa. They also can do phone calls and personalized letters from Santa. Santa can also send them messages for their birthdays, Christmas eve…all the bells and whistles. Of course, there are varying prices, but nothing outrageous. Everything is affordable to the parent, and it keeps the magic of the holidays firmly alive.

A few key points about PNP -

win-a-video-message-from-santa-with-portable-north-pole2

· PNP is mostly for young children who still believe in Santa and the magic of Christmas but even adults can join in on the Christmas magic with customizable videos for those 18+

· PNP offers a different video scenario for nice and naughty kids – and nice and naughty adults too

· PNP brings the magic of Christmas to life in the hearts of kids and adults all around the world, making the holiday season more special than ever

· PNP donates 5% of all online sales to a Children’s Hospital close to the buyer’s location. PNP currently collaborates with over 40 regional Children’s Hospitals in the U.S.

· The most popular PNP product is by far the personalized video message…but Santa and his elves offer a whole host of other personalized products, too, like the newly update iOS and Droid apps.

· The magical Portable North Pole console allows Santa to stay in touch with his millions of friends around the globe, all at the click of a button. Nothing makes Santa happier than creating special "Merry Christmas!" video messages and spreading his holiday cheer

The only thing I wish they could do is make these more personalized for the families with more than one little one at home. It’s all in good fun, until the little ones realize Santa sent the exact same message to their brother/sister, only with the names different. I think it could be an easy fix to have an option to personalize the video/call/letter for a set of siblings. But other than that little hitch, this is an amazing tool to keep the magic of the holidays alive and well.

This year I personalized videos for our older two children and a letter for Liam since its baby’s first Christmas. (a perfect addition to his baby book!)

Here is a breakdown of what Portable North Pole offers for 2013:portableNorthPole

    • · Portable North Pole’s standard Santa’s Video, Retail: Free A FREE personalized video message from Santa Claus filled with magic and exciting discoveries for your loved ones.
    • · Premium Video, Retail: $3.99 Premium videos includes almost 6 minutes of personalized video message from Santa Claus, features 3 additional photos and more personal details, a clip of Santa's riding on his sleigh and even a personalized Christmas carol
    • · Portable North Pole’s Mobile App, Retail: $3.99 for iOS and Android; $4.99 HD app for iPad and iPad mini Portable North Pole offers iOS and Android users anapplication to create Christmas magic on their mobile devices. The newly updated PNP app includes: credit to create and access premium videos, call from Santa himself, an Advent Calendar game, Christmas Radar, Countdown game and access to a PNP account to synchronize with your online content.
    • · Santa Sprint: PNP Adventure, $2.99 This unique Christmas adventure game, for iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod), provides hours of fun for the whole family. Guided by the voice of Santa, kids can help him get ready for Christmas and unlock exclusive video stories as they complete the different levels.
    • · Portable North Pole’s Santa’s Phone Call, Retail $3.99 for one call or $6.99 for three calls Santa has a very important message for your loved one! He will pick up the phone and call directly to deliver his personalized message. Santa’s call will last approximately two minutes and you can choose between 14 message options.

All in all I will be using Portable North Pole for years to come.

Celebrating Advent

happy_first_advent_by_naschi-d4hgaq5Happy holidays to all of my readers. As we approach this holiday season our family has decided to refocus on the Christ in CHRISTmas. With the hustle and bustle of Christmas concerts, shopping, gifts and other festivities its easy to overlook the the true meaning of Christmas. After moving to New York our family found it difficult to find a church home we felt called to and our daily living with Christ fell to the wayside as we went along with our new daily routine. This past year we finally found our new Church home and have strived to make Godly changes in our lives and in the lives of our children.

This past Sunday heralded the first Sunday in Advent. We have yet to unpack the lost Advent wreath, maybe this year we will find it OR I will find an idea for one on Pinterest.  As part of our renewed faith I decided to make our own Advent calendar this year instead of getting one of the chocolate filled ones from the store.

Image1

Over the next 24 days we will be reading through the nativity story with our children before tucking them in for the night.

We are a few days behind so Tonight we read days 1 and 2, and tomorrow we will read days 3 and 4 to catch up. The children loved it and I loved that we are making memories and helping our little ones grow in their relationship with God. Hopefully they will remember this for years to come and remember that although Christmas is a time for Santa and presents the true meaning will also be with them.

If you want to make your own advent chain you can find template from Less Ordinary Designs (she has a great premade one herself but its completely customizable) and the content/bible verses from Sweeter Than Sweets (her advent calendar is amazing and something I plan to do when I have more time to plan this instead of being 2 days late!).

Peeps not just for Easter

Image16

Peeps. Is there anyone out there that has never had one of those delicious sugar-covered marshmallow ducks? I know my children just LOVE those things. And, almost since their inception, they have never changed a bit. Oh, sure, they've gone from the classic yellow to multi-colored varieties, but they still remain the same, sugar-on-sugar sweetness that all children love.

Image9     Now, for Christmas, Peeps has decided to shake things up by releasing all new Holiday Peeps. They are still sugar-covered marshmallows, only now with exciting flavors just for the holidays.

The first ones I tried were the Gingerbread Flavored Men. They start off with that classic cinnamon spice, followed immediately by a sweetness that brings it to a more bearable level. I found myself licking my lips and feeling like I just ate a gingerbread man cookie. And here I sit and think, have Peeps gone gourmet?

Then I cracked open the Chocolate Dipped Candy Cane Flavored Chicks. One bite of these and my sweet tooth was deeply satisfied. The minty candy cane flavor, followed by that sweet chocolate, combined with the marshmallow...mmm...I've got to go eat another one right now….

Image15Yumm….
...And I'm back. Unfortunately, I don't have any new flavors to try now. The gingerbread men ones are, by far and away the best Peeps I have ever tasted. Besides the two flavors listed here, they also have Milk Chocolate Dipped Sugar Cookie Flavored Chicks, Chocolate Covered Mint Trees, Chocolate Mousse Reindeer, Trees, Snowmen, Peppermint Stars, a Rainbow Pop, and the Santa Mix Chick House.

Image5Most of these are the classic Peeps flavor you know and love, only in fun holiday shapes and colors (and the Rainbow Pops would make perfect stocking stuffers), and others are flavored or dipped in delicious chocolate. The only problem? It's so hard to eat more than one.

 Image14

And now for the good stuff your just dieing to find out, the What and Where. What Holiday Peeps are available, and where can I get them?….

PEEPS® holiday offerings include:

  • New Sugar-Cookie Flavored Marshmallow Chicks Dipped in Milk Chocolate (3 ct)
  • Gingerbread Flavored Gingerbread Men (6 ct and New 3 ct)
  • Chocolate Dipped Candy Cane Flavored Marshmallow Chicks (3 ct) Image10
  • Chocolate (milk or dark) Covered Mint Flavored Marshmallow Trees (individually wrapped)
  • Chocolate Mousse Flavored Marshmallow Reindeer (6 ct)
  • Trees (3 and 9 ct)
  • Snowmen (3 and 9 ct)
  • Peppermint Flavored Marshmallow Stars (9 ct)
  • Christmas Rainbow Pop (4 ct)

These celebratory treats can be found nationwide at grocery and drug stores, PEEPS & Company retail stores or at www.marshmallowpeeps.com.

Book Review: Truce (Neighbor from Hell)

17352874Truce (Neighbor from Hell)

by R.L. Mathewson

Book description: Elizabeth knows what’s expected of her, perfection. She’s the daughter of an Earl and expected to marry well, say and do the right things with a smile on her face when inside she’s dying for a chance to escape. Thanks to an inheritance her godmother left her years ago, her chance will come with her next birthday. Her hopes of escape abruptly end when Robert, her childhood nemesis that she hasn’t seen in over fourteen years, comes back into her life and does everything he can to drive her out of her mind even as he steals her heart.
He hated her.
At least, he tried to hate her, but it was so damn difficult to hate someone that he couldn’t live without. He tried to ignore her, tried to focus on anything but her, but nothing worked. Somehow she made her way into his heart and started to make him want things that he never thought possible, made him smile and laugh even while she drove him out of his mind and started a legacy by turning him into…..
A Bradford.
Author's Note: This is first and foremost a historical novel. This novel is written differently than the other Neighbor from Hell books. Truce is about a man who takes everything too damn seriously and can’t let go of the past until the woman that he would love to hate comes back into his life and brings out the Bradford within.

My Thoughts: I absolutely love R.L. Mathewson’s Neighbor from Hell series. The Bradford men are flawed but real and most importantly loyal and loveable. So when I had the chance to read Truce, the beginning of the Bradford’s I jumped at the chance to read how it all began. Even though this is a historical novel R. L. still manages to draw her loyal readers of the series in to the story and makes you laugh right along with the characters and most importantly fall in love with another Bradford man. If you take anything away from my fan girl ramblings is stop what you are doing right now and buy this series. Go now. I will wait. Trust me you wont regret it!

Neighbor from Hell books in reading order:

  1. Playing for Keeps: A Neighbor From Hell Novel
  2. Perfection: A Neighbor From Hell Novel
  3. Checkmate: A Neighbor From Hell Novel
  4. Truce: The Historic Neighbor From Hell Novel

Read more about R.L. Mathewson and her books (because her other series’ are just as good) visit her website: http://www.rlmathewson.com/

Tech Timeout

Are you and your family becoming disconnected because you are too connected to technology?

I think Technology is great. There are tons of educational apps, games, websites ect.. for our children. And Social media has become a great way to stay connected to my family far away. I think to myself look they are learning so its not bad but then I see that my kiddos haven’t gone outside to play in a while or those toys sitting on their shelves. And I think that’s enough, time to take a Tech Timeout.

Do you feel the same way I do? Then I suggest you take the Tech Timeout challenge! As the weather gets colder and we will be spending more time indoors I have decided our family will be taking the Tech Timeout Challenge and I encourage you to join us.

The Tech Timeout was started by Foresters and it encourages families to take a daily break from technology. You can learn more about it here and they even have great ideas on how to spend your tech free time. (just in case you have forgotten how to have fun without your phone, computer, eReader, etc…)

Book Review–For Every Season (Book 3 of the Amish Vines and Orchards series)

fes_lgFor Every Season

by Cindy Woodsmall

Book Description: Working hard to develop a new Amish community outside of Unity, Maine, Rhoda Byler is fully committed to rehabilitating an orchard with business partner Samuel King. But an impulsive decision has created an unexpected strain in her relationship with her beau, Samuel’s brother, Jacob, threatening plans for the orchard. Amidst mounting tension in matters of the heart and business, Rhoda finds that this fledging settlement feels like the home she has always longed for, and she begins to embrace the God-given, heightened intuition that has always felt like a burden to her. She longs for Jacob to fully be free of his past, so they can work towards the future together.

But as Rhoda uses her gift to unpack an old secret with her Englisch neighbors, it is not her beau but an unlikely ally that cheers her on. With the orchard on shaky ground and Jacob’s plans in question, Rhoda is determined to see things through to harvest. But can she trust her insight to direct her path in matters of the heart?

- See more at: http://www.cindywoodsmall.com/books/amish-vines-and-orchards-series/for-every-season/#sthash.KmePWQO4.dpuf

My Thoughts: Since this is book three in the series I’m already familiar with the characters and their struggles. I have followed along with all the characters up to this point and can feel the struggles they have faced – Moving, question of faith, fear, shame, confusion and most of all love. I loved finally seeing Rhodes embrace her gift instead of trying to hide and ignore it. I wont give away the ending but I will say the love triangle between Rhoda, Jacob and Samuel finds its end. I loved the first two books in this series and the third book didn’t disappoint either. I highly recommend this series.

What you missed in book one, A Season for Tending:

jcoverIn a community where conformity flourishes, seeds of Rhoda’s odd behavior were planted long ago. Can she cultivate her relationships with the same care and tenderness that she gives her beloved garden?
Old Order Amish Rhoda Byler’s unusual gift and her remarkable abilities to grow herbs and berries have caused many to think her odd. As rumors mount that Rhoda’s “gift” is a detriment to the community, she chooses isolation, spending her time in her fruit garden and on her thriving canning business.
Miles away in Harvest Mills, Samuel King struggles to keep his family’s apple orchard profitable. As the eldest son, Samuel farms with his brothers, the irrepressible Jacob and brash Eli, while his longtime girlfriend Catherine remains hopeful that Samuel will marry her when he feels financially stable,
Meanwhile, Samuel’s younger sister Leah is testing all the boundaries during her rumschpringe, and finds herself far from home in Rhoda’s garden after a night of partying gone badly. But Leah’s poor choices serve as a bridge between Rhoda and the King family when a tragic mistake in the orchard leaves Samuel searching for solutions.
Rhoda’s expertise in canning could be the answer, but she struggles with guilt over the tragic death of her sister and doesn’t trust herself outside her garden walls. As the lines between business, love, and family begin to blur, can Rhoda finally open up to a new life? And what effect will this odd, amazing woman have on the entire King family?

My Review of book one: http://kryssiruss.blogspot.com/2012/09/book-review-season-for-tending.html

What you Missed in Book two, The Winnowing Season:

the-winnowing-seasonThe tornado that devastated Kings’ Orchard pushed Rhoda, Samuel, and Jacob to make a new start in Maine. Are they strong enough to withstand the challenges of establishing an Amish community—and brave enough to face the secrets that move with them?

On the eve of their departure to begin a new Old Order Amish community outside of Unity, Maine, Rhoda Byler is shocked to discover that choices made by her business partner and friend, Samuel King, have placed her and her unusual gifts directly into the path of her district’s bishop and preachers. She is furious with Samuel and is fearful that the Kings will be influenced by the way her leaders see her, and not what they know to be true—that Rhoda’s intuition is a gift from God.
Jacob King won’t be swayed by community speculation. He loves Rhoda, believes in her, and wants to build a future with her in Maine. But when the ghosts of his past come calling and require him to fulfill a great debt, can he shake their hold before it destroys what he has with Rhoda? Samuel has a secret of his own—one he’ll go to great lengths to keep hidden, even if it means alienating those closest to him. Throwing himself into rehabilitating the once-abandoned orchard, Samuel turns to a surprising new ally.
Book 2 of the Amish Vines and Orchards series asks: can the three faithfully follow God’s leading and build a new home and orchard in Maine? Or will this new beginning lead to more ruin and heartbreak?

My Review of book two: http://kryssiruss.blogspot.com/2013/05/book-review-winnowing-season-book-2-of.html

A Close Shave with Shavemob

Hi readers its time again for a guest post from my husband Robert.

ShaveMOB_Men_Logo_FA
As a dad of 3 kids, I have to save money wherever possible. One of the biggest expenses I can possibly have is razor blades. My work requires me to look well-groomed, which means shaving (plus my wife hates it when I try growing a beard). But razors fall into two categories to me: too expensive to buy, or cheap, but quickly dulled. I have used razors for weeks after they are supposed to be thrown out simply because I can’t see spending so much to buy new ones.
Then we found out about ShaveMOB. This is a mail-order razor service. I will admit, I was skeptical of this at first. To me, I thought it would be a few small, cheap, disposable razors for slightly less than you would pay at a store. But, noting ventured nothing gained, so I figured I would give it a try.
Image1When the 100% recyclable package came, my first impression was that it was nice for a company to care about the environment. Then, I noticed how hefty the package felt. Nothing like disposable razors. Then I opened it, and WOW! The handle they give you is just as well as the expensive razors, AND they give you a full set of 4 blades to go with it (most only give you 2).
ShaveMOB offers 3 different razors for both men and women, so you can choose a razor that gives you a customs shave that’s just right for you! And I’ve been using it, and again WOW! This is the best razor I have ever used (I am using the six-blade razors, with the trimmer).
Then I went onto their website at www.shavemob.com to check out the prices. I was shocked even more. The blades I love, for a 4 pack with the handle, is $12.99! That is LESS than the price of similar razors by at least $6. And then, the more you buy, the less expensive it gets. With a typical set of 4 blades (priced at $17.49), you are paying $4.37 per blade. With ShaveMob, the same 4 blades, which costs $12.99 and includes the handle, you’re paying $3.25 per blade, saving $1.12 per blade. Over the course of one person’s life, that can add up to a lot of money. And, if you buy the biggest pack they have, which is 24 blades at $39.99, you are paying $1.67 per blade. That saves you $2.70 per blade that you used. And there is FREE shipping on all orders!
And ladies, don’t worry. ShaveMob also caters to you with the same great deals. I personally will never go back to using the cheap razors or being overcharged for an inferior shave. I totally recommend ShaveMob for anyone who uses a razor. WOW!
So check out Shavemob below:

This past June, my family was blessed with our third bundle of joy. For us, using the registry at Babies”R”Us is an old habit. It makes it hard to remember back in the days when we were expecting our first child, back before we knew how to do registries. And now, it’s my great pleasure to share some of my secrets for first time mothers filling out a registry with you.

First, when you walk into a store like Babies”R”Us, you go to the registry desk and ask to setup a registry. The people at Babies”R”Us will help with everything, and you will get a great welcome package, which includes a Baby Registry Planner with a full checklist of essential items, invitation cards to inform family and friends that you are registered at Babies”R”Us, a $5 off coupon for spending $25, product samples, and much more.

Then the fun really begins when they hand you that little hand scanner. My best advice here: go nuts! Scan everything you think you need, and scan everything you don’t think you need, but want. Back to School Allergy Tips from Claritin

backtoschoolIts back to school time! Are you as excited as I am? Haha! With backpacks and lunch boxes we also have to restock our medicine chest with our fall needs. One thing we reach for is Claritin.

This summer went by too fast for our family. We welcomed a new baby and my oldest baby went on a cruise with out me. So unfair! But now its back to the daily grind. With our oldest off to school I cant be around to shelter her from things that might cause a flair up but I know that we will have Claritin on hand if it does. I’m just glad our big guy doesn’t have any allergies! Below are some Allergy tips from Claritin.

Back to School Allergy Tips6a00e554e8b4c2883301901e96d3c9970b-800wi_thumb[8]

  1. Be sure to have Children’s Claritin, the #1 pediatrician-recommended non-drowsy allergy brand, on hand!
  2. Multi-vitamins are building blocks to having a strong immune system. Make taking a multi-vitamin part of your child’s daily routine.
  3. Let there be light! Mold doesn't like sunlight, so try to keep your curtains open during the day. Should be easy during the summer months!
  4. Did you know that most pillows trap allergens, dust mites, and bacteria? Monitor the cleanliness of the pillow your child with allergies sleeps on and replace if necessary.
  5. Back to school season means lots of laundry for many moms. Be sure to remove laundry from the washing machine promptly. Allowing wet clothes to sit in the washer means mold can quickly grow there.
  6. Monitor pollen counts and adjust outdoor before and after school activities accordingly. Dry, windy days can be particularly high in pollen.
  7. Showering or bathing at the end of the day as opposed to the morning can be helpful in removing allergens from body surfaces and hair.
  8. Stay hydrated! Always send your child to school with a bottle of water. Drinking lots of clear fluids through the day can help get rid of toxins and flush out body.
  9. Peak pollen production typically occurs in early morning, so try to plan outside activities at other times of the day.

VTech® InnoTab 3® Learning Tablet {Review and Giveaway}

ar137510177038192Welcome back to Techie Tuesday, a segment of this blog written by my husband, Robert. Every Tuesday, hubby will bring you a review of a great piece of technology for you, your spouse, or you children, or even the whole family. He will also take questions and answer them right here on the blog, so leave your questions in the comments each week.

Thank you, Krystal, for that warm welcome back to your blog. I am really excited about this first Techie Tuesday review in a long time. As a kid, and even now as an adult, I play my fair share of video games. My children are getting to the age I was when I began playing games, and already they have several different games. They have Kindle Fires, where they watch movies and play games. But the games that I want them to enjoy need to be educational as well as fun. Games that are just fun (like Super Mario Bros.) are fine once in awhile, but now there are a plethora of educational games available, games that give children the fun they love while also teaching them something.

thumbnailgeneratorVTech is one of those companies bringing this kind of game to our children with the Innotab 3. First off, it is ready to go out of the box, complete with batteries and games (batteries are huge, as any parent knows. Many a Christmas and birthday have been spent hunting down batteries to make that one special toy work.).

The 4.3” touch screen is set enough inside so that it is relatively protected from the standard bumps that any toddler can and will put these through. And of course, VTech makes accessories to protect this even more.

One thing I really like about these is the expandable memory. Never will my wife and I have to worry about the memory getting too full on our children’s Innotab. We can stick a 32gb microSD card in there and fill it with all kinds of things. Even their Kindle Fires don’t have that (side-note here: my family just loves our Kindle and Kindle Fires. This is not to bash Amazon at all, just making an observation.)

Let’s talk of the software. Games are just the beginning. This kid-friendly tablet does eBooks, music, pictures, and video. This does just about everything a tablet does, in a very kid-centric way. When your child breaks out an eBook, they will be reading an interactive story. Suddenly, reading is fun. Not only will this tablet read to your child, highlighting the words as they are read, but will allow you to interact with the illustrations. Plus, the tablet will track your child’s progress, highlighting new words for your child to learn. Then, your child can touch the highlighted word and learn what it means.

The Innotab can play mp3 music, which can be loaded onto a microSD card and played through the unit. This allows parents like me to individualize their tablets with music that they like, music that they can listen to whenever they like.

It can also take pictures and videos. My kids love to take pictures. They love taking our phones and snapping pictures of everything from us to their dogs to each other. With the Innotab, they can do crazy things with the pictures they take, ensuring that one picture can last for a long time.

The best part is, as they learn on the Innotab, my wife and I can follow along with their progress by checking the Learning Lodge, which is like an online report, showing us what our children has learned and allowing us to express our pleasure and to see if their knowledge is retained.

All-in-all, the Innotab from VTech is a perfect all-in-one learning machine for children. With the interactive storybooks, they will learn reading skills that will carry them throughout their lives. And with the Learning Lodge, we can be an integral part of their development and education by allowing us to keep up on their progress.

      • H2O Go! a directional pad game that teaches science concepts

Tech Timeout! Take the challenge…

TTOFacebook

WHAT IS TECH TIMEOUT?

The Tech Timeout challenge started by Foresters encourages families to take a daily break from technology. Participating families are encouraged to disconnect from all things electronic with the goal of helping spouses, parents and children build stronger bonds, communicate more personally and get more involved in each other’s lives.

TechTimeoutPledgeForm (1)

Over the weekend, I participated in a 3 day Tech Timeout challenge. Basically, for one hour each day, My family and I would be completely disconnected from technology. That means no cell phones, no computers, no tv or game systems…nothing more high tech than a book. We were encouraged to undertake this challenge from Friday through Sunday. The days most people find themselves connected to their tech devices.

DAY 1 - On Friday, my husband got paid, so we went out running around. That made it easy to keep tech down to nothing. We were out shopping for over an hour. We went to a game store and let my son play on some of the games they had there, then we went to Target to shop for clothes and things we needed for the household. The entire day was tech free with the exception of those few minutes my son had.

DAY 2 - Saturday was the toughest day to stay focused on this task. As a SAHM who has a working husband, I don’t get out too much, especially with 3 kids. So, to entertain myself, I do things online, things like this blog, while watching a show on tv. So, we spent the hour (and longer) outside playing with my older children in the yard while my youngest child sat in his bouncer, smiling and giggling the whole time (he loves being outside already. Guess I better start reviewing camping gear, LOL).

DAY 3 - Sunday was an easy day as we spent an hour in church. My kids love to sing and dance in church to all the great music we have throughout the service. After that, we went to browse at a store, and then home.

So, overall, I reconnected with what life was like before we were bombarded with all of this technology we take for granted. In this age of smartphones, laptops, game systems, and everything, we lose touch with what we used to do. Now, I make my children spend less time using technology and more time outside using their imaginations. I want them to learn the same lesson I grew up with and relearned this weekend: your imagination is the greatest technology there is, and the only technology you really need for a great time.

By participating in this challenge I realized that out family needs to take more timeouts and go out and live. My husband and I are discussing how our family will keep Tech Timeout a part of our family routine, maybe doing a hour or two a day or maybe a whole Tech free day a week. I will let you know what we decide.

Now its your turn. Do you think your up for the Tech time out challenge? Do you think your family needs a Tech timeout? Let me know by posting below and check out more about Tech Timeout and take the challenge yourself at http://techtimeout.com/

And here are a few ideas to do with your family during your Tech Timeout.

Book Review: Once Upon a Prince

_225_350_Book.858.coverOnce Upon a Prince, Book #1 in the Royal Wedding series

By Rachel Hauck
Book Description: Once Upon a Prince, the first novel in the Royal Wedding series by bestselling author Rachel Hauck, treats you to a modern-day fairy tale.
Susanna Truitt never dreamed of a great romance or being treated like a princess---just to marry the man she has loved for twelve years. But life isn’t going according to plan. When her high-school-sweetheart-turned-Marine-officer breaks up instead of proposing, Susanna scrambles to rebuild her life.
The last thing Prince Nathaniel expects to find on his American holiday to St. Simon’s Island is the queen of his heart. A prince has duties, and his family’s tense political situation has chosen his bride for him. When Prince Nathaniel comes to Susanna’s aid under the fabled Lover’s Oak, he is blindsided by love.
Their lives are worlds apart. He’s a royal prince. She’s an ordinary girl. But everything changes when Susanna receives an invitation to Nathaniel’s coronation.
My Thoughts: I adored this book. I'm a sucker for a great love story but after a while they all become pretty predictable. About 1/2 through this book I got to the point where I was like OK I *KNOW* what the ending will be. I sat there and told my husband I'm going to be really disappointed if the story ends like xyz ....... BUT it didn't and I LOVED it.

I don't know about you, but every girl I know has dreamed about being swept off her feet by a handsome price. I'm pretty sure it all started with Princess Diana but that was just a few years before I was born so I cant be 100% sure. Either way I know I dreamed of marring prince William and my little girl dreams of finding her prince to be the match to her princess complex. This story is a great love story but more than that you really feel the love not only between Nate and Susanna but between them and God. I genuinely felt Susanna giving it all to God and letting go of her plan to follow his.

Book Review: Faking Grace

n307672Faking Grace by Tamara Leigh
Book Description: All she wants is a job. All she needs is religion. How hard can it be?

Maizy Grace Stewart dreams of a career as an investigative journalist, but her last job ended in disaster when her compassion cost her employer a juicy headline. A part-time gig at a Nashville newspaper might be her big break.

A second job at Steeple Side Christian Resources could help pay the bills, but Steeple Side only hires committed Christians. Maizy is sure she can fake it with her Five-Step Program to Authentic Christian Faith–a plan of action that includes changing her first name to Grace, buying Jesus-themed accessories, and learning “Christian Speak.” If only Jack Prentiss, Steeple Side’s managing editor and two-day-stubbled, blue-jean-wearing British hottie wasn’t determined to prove her a fraud.
When Maizy’s boss at the newspaper decides that she should investigate–and expose–any skeletons in Steeple Side’s closet, she must decide whether to deliver the dirt and secure her career or lean on her newfound faith, change the direction of her life, and pray that her Steeple Side colleagues–and Jack–will show her grace.
Author Bio:Tamara Leigh is the best-selling author of eleven novels, including Perfecting Kate, Splitting Harriet, and Stealing Adda. She began writing romance novels to “get the stories out her head.” Over the course of one providential year, she gave birth to her first child, committed her life to Christ, gave up a career in speech pathology, and released her first novel. Tamara and her husband, David, live with their two sons in Tennessee.

My Thoughts: I have never read anything by Tamara Leigh before but I defiantly will again. I loved that her characters are real they have flaws and we love them for it. Tamara writes with a funny and witty style that is a joy to read!
I loved how Tamara writes in a way that shows how non-Christians ‘think’ Christians act as well as in a way that makes Christians question if they are just ‘faking it’? And she does it all while getting us to laugh and enjoy the story. You learn right along with Maizy as to what being a Christian really is even if she was just faking it and you are at the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen when the truth comes out. If your looking for a light story you cant go wrong with Faking Grace. I loved it and cant wait to pick up another book by Tamara Leigh.
A copy of this book was given to me by WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review.
